Longtime Union assistant coach Kevin Coad has been named as the interim head football coach for the Titans, Evergreen district athletic director Cale Piland said Thursday.

Coad takes over for Rory Rosenbach, who stepped down after seven seasons as head coach at Union to become the athletic director at Glacier Peak High School in Snohomish.

Coad is a 2004 graduate of Evergreen High School, where he played football for Piland. Coad went on to play college football at Central Washington.

Coad joined Rosenbach’s staff as an assistant in 2016. He has served as the team’s defensive coordinator since the 2018 season in which the Titans won the 4A state championship.

Coad has worked at Union at a math teacher since 2015.

“We are confident that Coach Coad will provide stability, vision and leadership necessary to succeed this season,” said LaMont Woods, Union assistant principal/athletic director, in a message to Union football parents. “At the end of the season, our administration team will determine the director of the program at that time.”

Coad becomes the fifth football head coach who will be entering his first season on the job this fall in Clark County, joining Aaron Hart at Mountain View, Dewayne Patterson at Columbia River, Kevin Peterson at Heritage and Dale Rule at King’s Way Christian. Dan Chase returns for his third stint as head coach at Seton Catholic.
