Weather Eye: Pleasant summer forecast with highs from 80 to 85

Friday was much more comfortable with the morning clouds, which tempered afternoon high temperatures into the 80s. On July 4, we had a temperature of 95 degrees which tied the record set in 2015. On July 5, we surpassed the old record of 95 degrees, also in 2015, with 96 degrees. Record-setting weather locally and elsewhere in the Northwest.

With more of a marine influence, we will have a possibility of morning clouds but plenty of sunshine is also in the offing. Highs today into early next week will be in the 80- to 85-degree range. A most pleasant summer forecast, wouldn’t you say?

I see no rain heading our way and no major heatwave back in the 90- to 100-degree range. We will post this forecast as summer perfect. Many of you answered my question the other day about activity in your gardens with the warm weather we are having.

Judy Weber in the View area remarked that her corn was knee high by the Fourth of July, the first time in 49 years that she has grown a garden in Clark County and 45 years in the higher elevation of the View locale.

Several others also had their corn knee high, but I had no reports of red ripe tomatoes. It won’t be long with the continued warm and dry weather on tap. We haven’t had a day yet this month with a high temperature below the average of 80 degrees and we are running 7 degrees above normal with the average mean temperature. No rain yet of course, but July is our driest month with only one-half inch expected.

There will be some thunderstorm development over the Cascades the next week or so, but at this time, the shower action is expected to remain along the Cascade crest and nothing to wander into the western valleys. Always something forecasters keep a sharp weather eye out for.

We had five days at 90 degrees or higher in May, only one in June and two so far in July for a total of eight days. Our average for the year is 15 so we should easily accomplish that statistic.

Enjoy the weekend and take good care everyone.
