Work to install steel plates on the East Fork Lewis River Bridge on Interstate 5 near La Center will occur from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday The work requires that the right lane of northbound Interstate 5 and the right shoulder be closed.

Travelers heading northbound on Interstate 5 should plan for up to 12 hours of delays through the area, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The steel plates will strengthen the bridge and prevent weight restrictions for freight travel until permanent repairs can be made. The bridge required a temporary patch last April when a 3½-foot hole appeared.
