Kevin Peterson has been hired to succeed Chase Smith as the varsity head football game at Heritage High School, athletic director Jason Castro said Friday,
Smith stepped down after one season as the Timberwolves’ head coach to focus on Heritage’s successful e-sports program. The Timberwolves went 0-9 last season, the school’s first winless campaign since 2001.
Peterson has served as an assistant football coach at Heritage for 13 seasons. He has been a PE and strength teacher at Heritage since 2004. This will be his first job as a head coach.
A South Kitsap High graduate, Peterson went on to a standout career as an center at Eastern Washington. In 2020, he was inducted into the Kitsap County Athletic Hall of Fame.
