Letter: WA Cares provides needed help

As a professional caregiver, I know how difficult it can be to afford long-term care. I have been in this field for 10 years and likely will work another 10 years more. As a single mom who also takes care of my own mother financially, I only have a few months’ rent in my savings.

I see on a daily basis how people end up needing help with things like showering and meals due to an injury or a chronic condition. And if they don’t have family around who can help, they end up going without other things to be able to pay for someone to help them at home.

I’m glad that our legislators, Sen. Annette Cleveland and Reps. Sharon Wylie and Monica Jurado Stonier, support the WA Cares program. Having a benefit like WA Cares will help folks like us get the care we want and deserve. WA Cares funds will stretch our dollars so we don’t have to choose between getting internet and healthy meals or getting help with dressing and showering.
