Prep Roundup: Columbia River boys start fast, hold off Ridgefield

Harris scores 33 to lead Camas girls past Prairie

Buoyed by a strong first half, Columbia River boys basketball held off Ridgefield 54-48 on Monday to earn a 2A Greater St. Helens League home win and snap a three-game losing streak.

The Rapids led 24-13 after the first quarter and 40-17 at halftime. But the Spudders got back into the game by outscoring Columbia River 18-3 in the third quarter.

John Reeder and Nico Valdez each scored 12 points to lead Columbia River (4-8, 4-4). Aaron Hoey added nine points, including two key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Colten Castro scored 23 points and hit five 3-pointers to lead Ridgefield (5-6, 4-3).

WOODLAND 65, HUDSON’S BAY 56 — Beau Swett scored 18 points to lead four Beavers in double-figures during a home win.

Justin Philpot added 17 points, Dane Huddleston scored 14 points and Drew Burns chipped in 10 points for Woodland (8-4, 5-2).

The win moved the Beavers into third place all alone in the 2A GSHL standings.

Izek Finn scored 19 points to lead Hudson’s Bay (1-10, 1-6).

Girls Basketball

CAMAS 78, PRAIRIE 20 — Addison Harris scored 33 points as the state’s top-ranked Class 4A team rolled to a non-league home win.

Harris made 15 of 18 field goals as the Papermakers (12-2) shot 60 percent from the field. Sophie Buzzard added 14 points and Kierra Thompson dished out 12 assists.

Maddie Louse scored nine points to lead Prairie (6-6).

BATTLE GROUND 37, LA CENTER 27 — Alexa Vasely scored 15 points, including all nine of her team’s points in the fourth quarter, as the Tigers earned their first win of the season.

Marissa Loveall added 8 points for host Battle Ground (1-10).

Shaela Bradley scored nine points to lead La Center (3-8), which was 9 for 23 from the free throw line.
