First-time parents Kimberly Hanen and Charles Mastberg welcomed Grayson Daryl-Lynn Mastberg-Hanen into the world at 12:39 a.m. Sunday, making him PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center’s New Year’s baby.
“I am more in love with this kid than I ever thought I could be,” said Kimberly Hanen.
Grayson was due on Jan. 6, but when Hanen went in for her final check-up on Dec. 30, she was already partially dilated and having contractions. Grayson is “happy and healthy,” weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 20 inches, according to his parents.
“I’m just looking forward to all the usual dad stuff you get to do with your first son, like go to baseball games and throw around a football,” said Mastberg.
Over at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, Roman Maverick Gaylord became that hospital’s New Year’s baby when he was born at 1:56 a.m. Sunday. His mom, Jordan Gaylord, wasn’t due to give birth until Jan. 19.
Dad Steve Gaylord caught Roman as he slipped into the tub during an accidental water birth, according to Jordan Gaylord.
“He’s happy and healthy,” said Jordan Gaylord.
Roman weighs 6 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 19½ inches.
Roman is the Longview couple’s sixth child. The five other children helped pick out his name before he was born. Roman was a family favorite and his middle name, Maverick, means “independent man,” according to Jordan Gaylord.
Now home, Roman is busy bonding with his siblings and parents.
Charles Mastberg was misidentified in an earlier version of the story.
