Prairie wrestler Faith Tarrant is The Columbian 2022-23 Week 20 prep athlete of the week

Sophomore captured her second consecutive state title last weekend

Prairie wrestler Faith Tarrant is the The Columbian 2022-23 Week 20 high school athlete of the week.

Tarrant received 346 of the 1,025 votes cast to win the weekly honor.

The sophomore pinned Mai Ciegega of Everett, Tarrant’s 35th pin in 35 matches this season, to win her second state title at 235 pounds.

This is the final athlete-of-the-week vote of the winter season. The next vote will begin March 20.

Here are the accomplishments of the other Week 20 nominees:

SAM EMPEY, UNION BOYS SWIMMING: The junior won state titles in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and helped Union to a title in the 200 free relay at the 4A state meet.

GIOVANNY EVANSON, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN BOYS BASKETBALL: Evanson had 37 points, seven rebounds and eight steals in a win over Hoquiam, then added another 21 points in the final, helping the Knights win the 1A district title.

EMMA INIGUEZ, COLUMBIA RIVER GIRLS BASKETBALL: Iniguez scored 10 points in the district semifinal vs. Tumwater, then added a team-high 14 points in the state-clinching win over Ridgefield.

MALACHI WALLWAY, LA CENTER BOYS WRESTLING: The senior scored an overtime pin of Cooper Williams of Castle Rock to capture La Center’s first state title since 2015, taking the title at 120 pounds.
