Did you get any snow at your place on Tuesday? I mentioned it would be hit and miss, and sure enough it was. Most had snow in the air, but the most favorable locations were of course in our foothills and north county including Battle Ground, La Center and other outlying areas. There was an inch of snow in Ocean Park right along the beaches.
Local observers include Judy Weber, west of View, who measured 4 inches; Chuck Houghten in Hockinson Heights had 3 inches; Tom Dixon in Amboy measured 4 inches; and William Sobolewski on Livingston Mountain was the winner with 5 inches. Other amounts reported were Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 1 inch; and Nicholl Russell, Woodland, 1.5 inches. Tom Dixon remarked, “We woke up here in Amboy this morning to the most beautiful snowfall I have ever seen here in years. It was 32 degrees and the snow clung to the trees and shrubs and presented a most gorgeous winter wonderland effect.”
OK, back to reality. Mostly dry weather through the weekend as the storm track has split with all the action way to our north and south. We are in the doldrums, so to speak. We will develop a wet and cold pattern as we enter the last days of the month. Some forecast models indicate we get another cold shot of air and maybe a repeat of earlier this week.
However, as I study the fine details, we could get much colder if east winds develop and usher in frigid air that will be sliding down the Rockies. We will be under a northwest flow, so low snow levels by midweek. Oh, joy: The groundhog is laughing at us.
