Sam Empey, Union lead a talented contingent of local swimmers at boys state meet

The stage is set for one of the more successful state boys swimming meet for Clark County swimmers in recent.

Union junior Sam Empey, a University of Auburn commit, is the top seed in two events and two of the Titans’ relays are seeded No. 2 in the Class 4A meet. The state meet runs Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Empey is the top seed in the 200-yard freestyle by a wide margin. Empey enters the meet with a seed time of 1 minute, 41.03 seconds. No. 2 seed is Curtis’ Adam Kwon at 1:45.30. Camas’ Nathan Kim is seeded third, and Union’s Owen Robertson is seeded sixth.

Empey is also seeded No. 1 in the 100 butterfly in 49.15 seconds. Newport’s Nathan Xu is the No. 2 seed at 50.61.

Union’s 200 medley relay is seeded No. 2 in 1:35.86 behind top seed Newport (1:35.25). The Titans’ 400 free relay is also No. 2 (3:10.68) behind Newport (3:10.57).

Union’s Owen Robertson is the No. 3 seed in the 500 freestyle.

In the Class 2A, Parker Dangleis of Hockinson tops a loaded contingent of local swimmers in the 50 freestyle. Dangleis is seeded No. 2 at 21.91 seconds, Tarik Kurta of Fort Vancouver at No. 3 (21.97) and Liam Dunn of Hockinson at No. 5 (22.99).

Dangleis is also seeded fourth in the 100 freestyle in 48.29, and Kurta is at No. 5 (50.06).

Hockinson’s 200 medley relay is seeded fourth (1:46.69).
