Stading’s late 3-point play lifts Woodland girls over Washougal

Beavers keep season alive with 48-45 win in district consolation bracket

The Woodland girls basketball team kept its season alive with a hard-fought 48-45 win over Washougal in the consolation bracket of the Class 2A district tournament on Monday at Fort Vancouver High School.

Riley Stading scored an old-fashioned 3-point play with 22 seconds left to break a 45-45 tie. She finished with 15 points, including 10 in the final quarter.

The Beavers (17-6) advance to face Mark Morris in a winner-to-state, loser-out game on Wednesday at Ridgefield High. Washougal’s season is over at 11-13.

Emily Hughes scored 14 points, including eight in the second quarter. That helped Woodland ouscore Washougal 16-9 to take a 23-15 lead into halftime.

Chloe Johnson scored 18 points in her final game to lead Washougal.
