Former Vancouver man gets 21-year sentence for child pornography

A former Vancouver man was sentenced Friday to 21 years in federal prison for creating images of the sexual abuse of an infant.

Kaleb Michael Scott, 24, pleaded guilty in September to production of child pornography in U.S. District Court in Tacoma, court records show. He will serve his federal sentence concurrently with a 20-year sentence handed down in a Clark County Superior Court case.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Scott became the caretaker of an infant in 2021. A Snapchat account linked to Scott had uploaded images of child molestation. By the time investigators traced the account to Scott, he had relocated to Utah and left his phone with relatives in Vancouver, a news release states.

When investigators examined the phone, they found 34 images of an infant being sexually abused and Google search terms related to images of child sex abuse.

Chief Judge David G. Estudillo said at the sentencing hearing that Scott’s conduct was not only “despicable; it was calculated. … He used his personal relationships to foster trust to gain access to particularly vulnerable victims, all exacerbated by having recorded his conduct, sharing images and going so far as to brag about what he was doing,” according to the news release.

The case was investigated by the Vancouver Police Department’s Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit.
