Prep basketball: Seton Catholic, King’s Way girls advance to 1A district semifinals

Trico League champion Seton Catholic rolled into the 1A district tournament semifinals with a 66-30 first-round win over Elma on Thursday.

Seton (19-2) held Elma (4-13) to just eight points in the first half thanks to a pressure defense and forcing turnovers.

Remy Jenniges led the Cougars in scoring with 20 points. Anna Mooney had 14 points, eight rebounds and five steals, and Keira Williams had four points, eight steals and four rebounds.

Seton will host Hoquiam (13-7) on Saturday. Hoquiam advanced with a 57-44 win over Columbia of White Salmon on Thursday.

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 48, EATONVILLE 29 — The Knights (12-7) cruised into the semifinals of the 1A district tournament by pulling away in the second half to win its seventh game in a row.

After trailing 21-20 at halftime, King’s Way (12-7) held Eatonville (12-8) to just three field goals the rest of the way.

Hannah Erwin led the Knights in scoring with 16 points to go with five rebounds and six steals. Bridget Quinn had 13 points, nine rebounds, and three steals.

King’s Way advances to play at Montesano (19-3) on Saturday. The Bulldogs have won nine in a row and 13 of its last 14 games.

Eatonville, which has lost its last four games, will host La Center in a loser-out game Saturday.

Boys basketball

COLUMBIA RIVER 65, SHELTON 49 — The Rapids extended their season by winning the 2A district pigtail game at Shelton.

Columbia River (9-12) moves into a first-round match up at Mark Morris on Saturday.

Aaron Hoey scored 15 points to lead the Rapids, and Ari Richardson had 13. The Rapids made 11 3-pointers and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
