3A boys swimming: Owen Wong leads parade of Mountain View wins in bi-district meet

Owen Wong won two individual events and was part of two winning relays, helping Mountain View to a second-place showing at the Class 3A District 4-8 boys swimming meet Saturday in Kelso.

Wong, a senior, won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.66 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 48.35 seconds.

Wong also anchored Mountain View’s winning 200 medley relay with Yonten Ghadong, David Kilway and John Ipe, winning in 1 minute, 41.49 seconds. The same foursome won the 200 free relay in 1:30.02.

Mountain View also got a wins Yonten Ghadong in the 100 butterfly (53.67) and David Kilway in the 200 individual medley (2:03.60).

Walla Walla won the team title with 360 points. Mountain View was second at 231, and Prairie was third at 219.

Kelso’s Andrea Cavaliere won the 100 breaststroke (59.79). Prairie’s 400 free relay team of Jack Houlahan, Kairos Phed, Vladyslav Revutskyy and Vladyslav Danylyuk also won in 3:25.48.

Prairie’s Danylyuk (200 IM, 100 back), Phed (100 fly) and Houlahan (500 free), as well as Mountain View’s Kilway (100 breast) and Kelso’s Cavaliere (100 free) earned state berths with runner-up finishes.
