Letter: Traffic carnage surprising?

By Jack Androvich, Ridgefield
Published: December 30, 2023, 6:00am

I’ve noticed a definite uptick in dangerous driving in our county. Examples: A person passes me over a double yellow line on a major county road. Another passes me in a two-way left turn lane in a 35 mph zone while traveling well above the speed limit. Flagrant speeding of 70 mph or more in 60 mph zones on Interstates 5 and 205, including semitrucks regularly rolling at well over 60 mph. Couple this with distractions, DUI, not using seatbelts and relatively low police presence. The recipe for tragedy is already written. So until we get more resources addressing the problems, I’ll continue driving attentively and defensively, including making room for poor drivers and for sure checking major intersections before I pass through them. Just because you have a green light doesn’t mean it’s safe!
