Letter: Volunteers help food drive succeed

By Mike Anderson, Vancouver

I just want to give my heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who worked on Walk & Knock the first Saturday in December.

I coordinated the collection center at Wy’east Middle School and had a great group of volunteers. By 10 a.m. we were overwhelmed as carloads and truckloads of food arrived. Thanks to volunteers from Evergreen and Mountain View high schools, Washington State Department of Transportation and community members, we were able to box almost 30,000 pounds of food in four hours. A big thank you to Dot Donuts and Seize the Bagel for keeping the team fed and hydrated.

It would not have been as successful without all the drivers, people who went door to door and the huge generosity of those that donated.

I look forward to an even greater collection next year. I was humbled by all the effort. Check out the Walk & Knock Facebook page for a brief glimpse of what these volunteers accomplished.
