Letter: Prevent an inequitable future

By David Mikeals, Battle Ground

The future is inequitable as it is unreasonable. We live in the wealthiest and most prosperous nation in the history of humanity. We are also just as unruly, selfish, and inhuman as most all our ancestors were and have been throughout all of human history. If something is hysterical it is also historical. History is meaning, and meaning is history.

Price caps on necessities, rent caps, laws enforcing big corporate employers to pay employees relative to the cost of living: a living wage. These are but a few solutions gone unexplored in favor of the more historic and hysterical trend known as human greed.

I do believe the future could be one of hope, one of overcoming the odds of typical human trends. I also fear we aren’t listening to our better angels, instead listening to the dollar as the false American God it has become. That is, when we aren’t blindly following the soft drumming of Mars.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
