Beckett Currie hit scored 32 points and broke the 1,000-point scoring mark for his career as the Camas boys basketball team held off Renton 82-76 in a non-league game Friday night in Camas.

Jace VanVoorhis hit three 3-pointers in the first half and Currie and Ethan Harris added two each as the Papermakers raced out to a 45-29 halftime lead.

But Renton rallied in the second half to make the game close.

“Renton had another gear to their intensity in the second half that made them a significant challenge on the boards and their full court pressure was able to force some important late game turnovers,” Camas coach Ryan Josephson said.

Currie hit another four 3-pointers in the second half to help Camas fend off the Renton rally. Currie hit the 1,000-point mark just midway through his junior season.

VanVoorhis and Harris finished with 19 points each for Camas (7-5), which will open 4A Greater St. Helens League play on Tuesday at home against Union.

UNION 46, MOUNTAIN VIEW 45 — Kody Holcomb scored eight of Union’s nine fourth-quarter points as the Titans had to withstand a Mountain View rally in the third-place game at the Myron Lawrence Memorial Tournament at Fort Vancouver.

The win for Union in the JaQuan Thomas Bracket of the tournament avenged a season-opening loss to the Thunder.

However, Mountain View (3-9) was missing several key contributors to that earlier win at this week’s tournament.

Malcolm Weatherspoon, a recent call-up from the junior varsity squad, led Mountain View with 15 points. Daniel Dolev hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points.

The Thunder hit eight 3-pointers in all, but only attempted one free throw for the entire game, compared to 20 for Union.

Nolan Frazier had eight points in the first quarter as Union surged to a 13-4 lead. But the Titans made only 10 of 20 free throws, providing an opportunity for the Thunder.

Mountain View nearly rallied back to win, the Thunder had a potential game-winning shot rim out at the buzzer.

Holcomb scored 16 points, and Nate Burchett added 11 for Union (6-6).

KAMIAKIN 78, SKYVIEW 66 — Malakai Weimer made 11 of 15 field goals and finished with 27 points, but it was not enough for the Storm to keep up with the hot-shooting Braves on the road.

Kamiakin shot 72 percent from the field in the second half, opening up a game that the Braves led 35-34 at halftime.

“Honestly, we didn’t play poorly on defense,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “Kamiakin made some very tough shots with guys on them. Sophomore Malakai Weimer had a great game for us offensively. We just didn’t get enough shots to fall down the stretch.”

Demaree Collins added 20 points for the Storm (4-6).

“Despite our record, I feel we are improving,” Gruhler said. “We had a really tough schedule, playing three top-10 4A teams. We just didn’t quite get over the hump against them.

Skyview opens 4A Greater St. Helens League play on Tuesday at Battle Ground.

HERITAGE 58, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 44 — Jose Zacarias and Jayce Gallant helped the Timberwolves snap an eight-game losing streak with a win at the Myron Lawrence Memorial Tournament at Fort Vancouver.

Zacarias scored in double figures (final statistics were not available), and Gallant sparked the defense.

“Jayce Gallant was everywhere on defense — rebounds, steals, lose balls,” Heritage coach Ashton Clark said. “It was a good team win to finish the tournament.”

NORTH CREEK 59, PRAIRIE 44 — Carson Morningstar scored 16 points to lead Prairie at the Mountlake Terrace Tournament.

ILWACO 55, STEVENSON 38 — Chris Blackledge led Stevenson with 22 points at the Ilwaco Holiday Classic.
