Letter: City spends other people’s money

By John Molenaar, Vancouver
Published: December 26, 2023, 6:00am

We learn today that our city manager now makes $344,000 per year (“Vancouver City Council gives City Manager Eric Holmes $27,000 raise,” The Columbian, Dec. 19). That’s $56,000 less that the president of the U.S. makes, but who cares, it’s only other people’s money.

We also learn momentum on climate action was maintained by him. Does anyone really believe anything that was spent, also other people’s money, would make any change in this globally at all? By the way, has anybody seen those long buses, called articulated buses I believe? Usually when I see one I see one or two people in it.

Why was it necessary for C-Tran to purchase these large buses? But again that does not matter. As always it’s other people’s money.
