Before Santa arrives, let’s review rainfall for November from our friends and neighbors around the area.

Bob Starr, Cougar, 16.88 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 6.92 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 5.08 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 10.88 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 7.69 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 4.84 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 7.18 inches; Dick Lenahan, Meadow Glade, 5.67 inches; Dave Campell, 1 mile west of Heisson, 12.58 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 6 inches; Barry Fitzthum, Amboy, 8.65 inches; and Judy Weber, near View, 8.83 inches. Our friend Roland Derksen in Vancouver, B.C., reported 7.17 inches. The official rainfall for Vancouver USA was 5.01 inches, .50 of an inch below average.

You’ll notice Bob Starr in Cougar had a hefty amount of rain last month, but it was still below his average of 19.33 inches. Yep, Cougar is one of the wettest locations in the Evergreen State. He also mentioned that for the calendar year ending Nov. 30, he measured 86.68 inches, which is well below the average of 122.84 inches.

December is running way above average with the rainfall and as of Thursday evening, Vancouver had 7.05 inches in the rain bucket. Not quite twice the average so far for the month but well above normal. With the rain on Friday and unsettled weather from Christmas to New Year’s Eve, I expect Vancouver could add another inch or so to the monthly tally.

Now if we could only get all that moisture to fall as snow in the mountains. The weather system on Friday had cold air behind the front and was expected to bring several inches to the mountains down to the passes.

Today will be partly sunny and cool here in Vancouver after some fog and clouds. On Christmas Eve a weak weather system is likely to provide some light rain and with a lack of sunshine and lingering cold air from the overnight hours, we may only see a high of 40 degrees or so. Christmas Day will be cloudy and seasonably cool. No white stuff falling from the skies.

Merry Christmas!
