The Clackamas Cavaliers needed just one opening, and they took it.
Oregon’s Class 6A defending state champion girls basketball team, ranked No. 3, used a 15-4 second quarter to pull away and beat visiting Camas 72-53 in a cross-state game Friday.
Camas (8-3) had its five-game winning streak snapped. Aside from that second quarter, the Papermakers hung tight with the Cavs who were playing just their third game of the season.
Camas trailed 18-14 after the first quarter, and was only outscored by four points in the second half.
Papermakers’ Addison Harris finished with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Keirra Thompson added 14 points and Reagan Jamison had 13 points.
Clackamas junior guard Jazzy Davidson led all scorers with 29 points. She is listed as No. 2 among the nation’s top girls basketball players in the class of 2025 according to ESPN’s HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings put together by Premier Basketball.
KELSO 60, THOMAS JEFFERSON — Bregan Ruhland scored 19 points to lead Kelso in the non-league win.
Payton Champagne and Hayden Johnson each scored 10.
Boys basketball
BATTLE GROUND 56, EMERALD RIDGE 46 — Trey Spencer led all scorers with 28 points as the Tigers (4-5) beat Emerald Ridge in a non-league game at Kelso.
Spencer was 8 for 9 from the free-throw line including 7 for 7 in the fourth quarter.
Boston Walker cleaned up on the board with 17 rebounds to go with seven points and seven assists.
R.A. LONG 60, PRAIRIE 56 — The Lumberjacks overcame a 31-24 halftime deficit by outscoring Prairie 25-12 in the third quarter and held off the Falcons in the non-league game.
R.A. Long (7-2) made five 3-pointers in the third on its way to a 49-43 lead going into the final eight minutes.
Lonnie Brown finished with 16 points, Rhet Young had 14 and Landon Irwin 10 for R.A. Long.
Prairie (5-3) was led in scoring by Carson Morningstar’s 13 points and Cam Newsome’s 12.
SETON CATHOLIC 76, HUDSON’S BAY 48 — The Cougars pulled away for the non-league win thanks to a 33-point second quarter.
Kaiden Wilson led all scorers with 22 points, and Brady Angelo had 20 as Seton Catholic (4-3) made 11 3-pointers in the game and was 13 for 16 from the free-throw line.
Hudson’s Bay (0-6) was led in scoring by Noah David with 11 points and Lincoln Goode with 10.
