Letter: One nation, divisible

By Roy Wilson, Vancouver

Apparently the Republican lust for power has evolved to where they no longer wish to live in a democracy.

Some want another Civil War. Perhaps Abraham Lincoln was wrong to keep the Union together after all.

We could fix that. What if we divide our nation into two parts, North and South, Democrat and Republican, liberal and conservative, the size of each based on the number of registered Republican vs. Democratic voters, creating two nations, each with its own government?

Then work together one last time to help relocate citizens who find themselves not living in the nation of their choice. We would become two separate countries, the North U.S. and the South U.S., one dedicated to equality and diversity, one enforcing a national religion, likely favoring a rebirth of slavery. Peace between us may then be possible, without today’s continual hatred. Then, if we simply watch, we will soon see which one has a happy population, living in peace, and which has a gun-dominated society, everyone armed, killing each other with self-righteous abandon. (No abortions allowed, but mass murders in schools are OK.) It wouldn’t take long to see the difference.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
