Portland ice cream phenom Salt & Straw is opening its Waterfront Vancouver location Jan. 5 — a joyful announcement for Vancouver’s ice cream fans.

The opening day celebration will include free hot chocolate, a visit with Clark College mascot Oswald and live music.

The store, 740 Waterfront Way, will be open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, serving up Salt & Straw’s classic 13 flavors.

The store will offer an expanded dairy-free menu in January with flavors such as red velvet cake, chewy chocolate chip cookies dunked in creamy oat milk and creamy Bananas Foster.

Salt & Straw’s classic flavors include Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons; Double Fold Vanilla; Chocolate Gooey Brownie; Honey Lavender; Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip; Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough; Arbequina Olive Oil; Cinnamon Snickerdoodle; Strawberry Honey Balsamic With Black Pepper; Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge; Coffee and Love Nuts; Marionberry Coconut Sherbet; and Pear and Blue Cheese.

The Waterfront Vancouver location is Salt & Straw’s fourth in Washington. Both founders of the company, cousins Kim Malek and Tyler Malek, have strong ties to the Evergreen State.

Salt & Straw is also partially owned by “Fast and the Furious” franchise action star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who spent part of his childhood living in Vancouver.

CEO Kim Malek said in a statement that she’d been looking for the right spot for a Vancouver location for several years and was inspired by the waterfront development.

“It’s a wonderful gathering space, and we feel incredibly lucky to be a part of it.” Kim Malek said. “Washington is near and dear to our hearts, and we are beyond excited for our continued growth in the area.”

The company expects to hire about 20 employees for its Vancouver location.
