Letter: League supports public participation

By Sharon Brown, president League of Women Voters of Clark County, VANCOUVER
Published: December 20, 2023, 6:00am

During a Dec. 11 Clark County Railroad Advisory Board meeting, a representative of the Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad objected to allowing public comments about the railroad’s business.

The League of Women Voters of Clark County appreciates the county staff and the Railroad Advisory Board for stepping in and reminding participants of the rules regarding public comments under the Open Public Meetings Act. Public participation in our democratic process is a key component of the League’s mission of empowering voters and defending democracy.

The League became aware of this development because a member of our Observer Corps was monitoring the meeting.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
