Boys basketball roundup: Skyview gives No. 3 Davis a test

Davis of Yakima had an 8-0 run midway in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 66-61 win over Skyview on Tuesday in the consolation round of the Hardwood Invite at Parkrose High School in Portland.

Skyview was able to get within four points on two occasions in the last minutes before Davis finished off the Storm from the free-throw line.

Skyview’s Demaree Collins led all scorers with 20 points. Gavin Perdue and Malakai Weimer both had 11 points, and Gavin Packer had 10.

Davis (7-1) is ranked No. 3 in Class 4A.

“We are improving but are still learning how to win against the best teams in state,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “It that is why we signed up for this tournament. We wanted to challenge ourselves against some of the best around.”

The Storm (3-3) close out play on Wednesday against Southridge of Miami, Fla.

CAMAS 71, SOUTHRIDGE (FLA.) 60 — Jace VanVoorhis scored 24 points and had five rebounds as the Papermakers won the consolation game over the team from Miami, Fla., at the Hardwood Invite at Parkrose High School in Portland.

Camas had a solid shooting performance, making 62.2% of its shots including 50% on 3-pointers and 14 of 17 from the free-throw line.

Beckett Currie added 19 points and seven assists, Nyima Namru had 12 points and Ethan Harris had a team-high nine rebounds.

Camas will play Davis of Yakima for fifth place on Wednesday.

EVERGREEN 63, CLACKAMAS (Ore.) 50 — Landon Rayner scored 18 points to lead the Plainsmen to a non-league win at home.

Without leading scorer Dez Daniel, Evergreen had 11 players score. Arthur Ban had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Evergreen (4-2) outscored Clackamas 21-8 in the second quarter to lead 35-19 at halftime.

ISSAQUAH 76, PRAIRIE 61 — Solomon Ogbeama and Carson Morningstar each scored 16 points but the Falcons could not overcome an early deficit on the road.

Prairie (5-2) trailed 22-9 after the first quarter and 40-24 at halftime.

Issaquah (5-3) shot 18 for 29 from the free throw line with 18 of those attempts coming in the fourth quarter.

WASHOUGAL 49, WOODLAND 37 — Holden Bea scored 14 points, Alex Frost added 14 points and the Panthers earned a 2A GSHL road win.

Trailing 22-20 at halftime, Washougal outscored Woodland 13-4 in the third quarter.

The Panthers improved to 3-2 in league play and 4-5 overall.

Brett Martynowicz scored 10 points to lead Woodland (3-4, 1-4). Lucas Logan and Sam Jeschke each added nine points.

RIDGEFIELD 70, HUDSON’S BAY 43 — The Spudders turned a tight 20-19 first quarter into a blowout by outscoring the Eagles 23-0 in the second quarter of the 2A GSHL game.

Ridgefield’s Cole Chester led all scorers with 17 points. Jamison McCann had 14 points, Jack Hughes 13 and Colten Castro 11.

Rafael Bauman had 12 points and Noah David 11 for Hudson’s Bay.

HOCKINSON 61, FORT VANCOUVER 58 — A tight game throughout, Hockinson was able to hold off visiting Fort for the 2A GSHL victory.

Grant Gumringer led the Hawks with 12 points, and Payton Poppe and Andrew Meier each had 11.

Fort’s Jayden Parquet led all scorers with 16 points, and Josiah Jointer added 13 for the Trappers.

R.A. LONG 67, COLUMBIA RIVER 56 — The visiting Lumberjacks handed the Rapids their first loss in 2A GSHL play after a 5-0 start. Further details were not reported.

STEVENSON 47, MOLALLA (Ore.) 44 — Kacen Bach scored 23 points as the Bulldogs improved to 2-0 at the Happy Rock Invitational in Gladstone, Ore.

Bach was 8 for 10 from the free throw line and made all three of Stevenson’s 3-pointers.

Stevenson (4-1) held off Molalla (1-8) by making 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter.

ADNA 73, LA CENTER 68 (OT) — Adna was able to get past visiting La Center with an 8-3 overtime period.

Austin Nixon scored 17 points to led La Center. Anthony Larkin and Jacye Grotte each scored 15 points, and Logan Rainey had 13.
