Although Tuesday had gray skies Vancouver didn’t measure any rainfall so what is better than one dry day in December? How about two dry days? Wednesday was clear and sunny thanks once again to those brisk east winds.
Winds out of the Gorge can be a double-edge sword at times. Cold in the winter and hot in the summer. But they do clear us out, especially in the winter days prone to stagnant air and fog. Today that dying weather front I mentioned here on Tuesday passes through, but skies will clear again Friday and those east winds will be back with us.
You either like that wind or not. I know our friends living in the east county get the brunt of them and can be rather bitter and destructive at times. Residents on the west side of say Interstate 205 and away from the river enjoy the clear and mostly calm sunny skies but in the overnight hours dip to some cold temperatures. That will be the case this weekend. Near freezing in wind-sheltered locations and above freezing in the windy areas, but of course you must factor in the wind chills.
Our high temperatures are running way above average for mid-December with a high on Wednesday of 54 degrees, 7 degrees above normal. The low Wednesday morning in Vancouver at the official weather station along the Columbia was a windy 48 degrees. If you were out of the winds, you felt lows in the 30s.
