Letter: Be inclusive and kind

By Gail Burgess, Camas

I am grateful that civics is now a required course for young people, so they can learn to think clearly, ask questions, research, then engage in difficult but civil conversations in order to build trust and alliances with those with disparate beliefs (“How to pay for immigrants?” Our Readers’ Views, Dec. 6). That elevates our society above hating or fearing others who are different from us.

As the world heats up, human migration will accelerate. Get ready for it by building infrastructure that will accommodate these people, help them find housing, education, and useful employment. It benefits us all to be inclusive and kind.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
