Columbia River senior Lauren Dreves capped another stellar season by being selected the Class 2A state player of the year by the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday.

Dreves, who led Columbia River to its third consecutive 2A state championship last month, was joined at the Class 2A all-state first team with teammate Macey McCoy, a senior setter, and Ridgefield senior outside hitter Lizzy Andrew. River coach Breanne Smedley was picked as the 2A state coach of the year.

Ridgefield’s Callie Curran and Hailey McEllrath were selected to the all-state second team with Columbia River’s Sydney Dreves. River’s Logan DeJong earned honorable mention.

La Center’s Billie Ross and Mia Achziger were selected to the 1A all-state first team. Teammate Esther Langeliers made the second team, and Natalie O’Neil of King’s Way Christian earned honorable mention.

Camas’ Kendall Mairs and Halle Reiter were selected to the 4A second team. Prairie’s Diamond Doutrive made the 3A second team, while teammate Ali Millspaugh earned honorable mention.

CAMAS GIRLS IN D.C. — The Camas girls basketball team lost two of three games on a trip to Washington, D.C., but the Papermakers may come out being big winners down the road from the experience.

After beating Maret of Washington, D.C., on Thursday — a game in which Addison Harris eclipsed the 1,000-career point mark with a late sealing basket — the Papermakers lost to Whitney Young, one of the top teams in the Chicago area, 65-55 on Friday.

On Saturday, the Papermakers led from start to finish in regulation against Archbishop Carroll of Radnor, Pa., the reigning 6A state Pennsylvania champion. But a foul on a last-second 3-pointer led to three free throws for Archbishop Carroll, which tied the game and sent it into overtime. There Archbishop Carroll won 59-52.

“We’ve had an amazing experience on the East Coast,” Camas coach Scott Thompson said. “The teams we matched up against were all very impressive, and we definitely showed that we belong.”

The Papermakers return home this week to play at Skyview on Thursday and then host Eastlake on Friday in a rematch of last March’s 4A state championship game.

FIRST WIN AT KING’S WAY — Jaydon Hall scored 22 points to lead King’s Way Christian, a 1A team, to a 51-46 win over 3A Mountain View on Friday.

Mountain View took a 37-30 lead into the fourth quarter before the Knights outscored the Thunder 21-9 in the final period to give Ty Johnson his first win as head coach.
