Prep Roundup: Columbia River boys knock off defending 2A GSHL champ Mark Morris

Ari Richardson scored 23 points to lead Columbia River boys basketball over Mark Morris 69-58 in a key early-season 2A Greater St. Helens League game on Monday.

Richardson hit five of Columbia River’s nine 3-pointers as the Rapids won at home over the defending 2A GSHL champs.

Columbia River led 39-25 at halftime. Nico Valdez scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half, shooting 7 for 8 from the free-throw line before halftime.

The Rapids made 12 of 16 free throws while Mark Morris went 17 for 33.

Braydon Olson scored 21 points and Malakai Gray added 12 points for the Monarchs.

Columbia River improved to 3-0 in league play and 4-1 overall. Mark Morris fell to 2-1 in league and 2-3 overall.

Boys basketball

CAMAS 70, HERITAGE 53 — Jace VanVoorhis scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half as the Papermakers pulled away for a non-league road win.

Ethan Harris added 12 points and Mason Lai scored 11 for Camas (3-3), which snapped a three-game skid.

Brooks Greenwald scored 20 points and made four of his team’s eight 3-pointers for Heritage (1-4).

BATTLE GROUND 68, W.F. WEST 52 — Ian Ebinger scored 21 points as the Tigers earned a non-league win in Chehalis.

Austin Ralphs scored eight of his 13 points in the third quarter as Battle Ground outscored the Bearcats 24-12 to open a 52-42 lead.

Ralphs finished with a team-high 13 points. Trey Spencer added 12 points for the Tigers (2-3).

Tyler Klatush scored 18 points for W.F. West (2-2).

WOODLAND 71, FORT VANCOUVER 67 — Sam Jeschke scored 17 of his game-high 28 points and made five 3-pointers all in the second half to help the Beavers rally from an 11-point halftime deficit and get the 2A GSHL win at Fort Vancouver.

Jeschke made four 3’s in the third quarter as the Beavers pulled to within 56-49.

Woodland then held Fort to 11 points in the final quarter while putting in 20 points of its own with a balanced attack.

Lucas Logan had 14 points and Dashawn Flagge added 12 for the Beavers.

Fort, which made 14 3-pointers, was led in scoring by Josiah Jointer’s 15 points and Liam Cvitkovich’s 13.

WASHOUGAL 65, HUDSON’S BAY 61 — Mason Darling scored 15 points as the Panthers held on for a 2A GSHL road win.

Mather Minnis and Alex Frost each added 12 points for Washougal (3-3, 2-0). Frost was 6 for 6 from the foul line and made two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Washougal protected a 54-48 lead after three quarters.

Noah David scored 15 points and Rafael Bauman added 13 points for Hudson’s Bay (0-3, 0-3).

HOCKINSON 52, RIDGEFIELD 50 — Sophomore Payton Poppe scored 17 points and Andrew Meier added 11 points as the Hawks earned a 2A GSHL home win.

The game was tight throughout. After Hockinson led 22-21 at halftime, the game’s pace picked up with Ridgefield outscoring Hockinson 23-22 in the third quarter.

Senior guard Cole Chester led Ridgefield with 20 points.

SETON CATHOLIC 76, MORTON-WHITE PASS 48 — Brady Angelo scored 26 points, including six 3-pointers as the Cougars earned a non-league win on the road.

Kaiden Wilson added 18 points for Seton Catholic (2-3). Tyler Tran scored 12 points, all on 3-pointers, as the Cougars hit 12 shots from behind the arc.

Judah Kelly scored 26 points for Morton-White Pass (1-2).

Girls basketball

SKYVIEW 66, EVERGREEN 52 — Lainey Phillips scored 13 of her 19 points in the third quarter as the short-handed Storm earned a non-league home win.

Phillips scored 13 of Skyview’s 17 points in the third quarter, which ended with the Storm ahead 50-41.

“She came out really aggressive and finished inside,” said Skyview coach Jacob Kaler.

With Skyview missing two starters due to illness or injury, Elan Estes stepped into the lineup and scored 12 points. All came on 3-pointers in the first half.

Adrian Wright scored 25 points and Kimora Ross added 12 points for Evergreen (3-3).

RIDGEFIELD 71, HOCKINSON 30 — Janessa Chatman scored 26 of her 28 points in the first half as the Spudders stayed undefeated with a 2A GSHL road win.

Jalise Chatman added 12 points as all 10 Ridgefield players who entered the game scored.

Ridgefield (5-0, 3-0) led 44-17 at halftime.

Dannika Grant and Zieynita Stidum each scored 12 points for Hockinson (2-3, 1-2).

TOUTLE LAKE 52, SETON CATHOLIC 31 — The Fighting Ducks improved to 7-0 with the non-league win at Seton Catholic. Lainey Dean led Toutle Lake with 17 points, and Haileigh Cooper added 10.

Seton Catholic (2-3) was led in scoring by Madison Lee with eight.

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 44, DE LA SALLE (ORE.) 28 — Bridget Quinn scored 19 points, and Hannah Erwin scored 12 in the non-league win for King’s Way over the visitors from north Portland.
