Letter: How was Condit power replaced?

By Gene Couture, Vancouver
Published: December 8, 2023, 6:00am

Having read the interesting and informative Dec. 5 article “A vision for White Salmon,” I noted the Condit Dam removal took 12 megawatts of electric power off the grid. There was no note in the Lower White Salmon Coalition plan to replace that power. I would question whether any consideration had been given to a “run of the river” power generation facility, which would not necessarily require a dam. That may allow us to have the cake of electricity generation, while keeping the cake of fish return. Also, if the dam was removed in 2011, is there any evidence of significant fish return?

Apart from these questions, thanks for the well-written article.
