Letter: Clark GOP jumped the gun

Admittedly, I am not an active member of the Clark County Republican Party. I am, however, a Clark County Republican who is surprised that our local party has endorsed a candidate running for Congress, in the 3rd District, well over a year before the normal primary selection process.

Although possibly a bit naive, I do believe the party’s purpose is to cultivate all viable conservative candidates, then solidly support the individual selected by the people via the primary process. To do otherwise simply predetermines that an individual, favored by a very small group of party regulars, should be the choice of all Clark County Republicans. That choice may ultimately prove to be the voters’ choice, but the primary process should be allowed to function as designed. The local Republican organization should rethink their very premature endorsement while pledging to work with all viable candidates. The retooled process could help return the 3rd Congressional District to the conservative side of the aisle.
