Addison Harris scored 23 points and Reagan Jamison added 19, but it was not enough as the Camas girls basketball fell 65-57 to Whitney Young of Chicago in the She Got Game Classic in the Washington, D.C. area on Friday night.
“Whitney Young is the team to beat this year out of the Chicago area,” Camas coach Scott Thompson said. “Reagan and Addie both played very well, but we couldn’t stop them in the second half.”
The Papermakers (3-1) fell behind early as Whitney Young took a 15-6 lead after the first quarter. Camas cut the deficit to 25-20 by halftime.
Trailing by 10 to start the fourth quarter, Camas worked to within two points before the Dolphins pulled away.
“This is what we are here for,” Thompson said. “We came to test ourselves and repeatedly our girls continued to fight. Whitney Young had a couple of runs, and both times we rolled up our sleeves and fought back into the game. We had it to two points in the fourth quarter, but unfortunately we didn’t have enough in the tank.”
Keirra Thompson added 11 assists for Camas, and Jamison and Harris had six rebounds each.
Three-point shooting prove decisive for Whitney Young as the Dolphins hit 7 of 14, while Camas was 4 of 16.
Camas completes its three-game series of games in the Washington, D.C. area against Archbishop Carroll of Radnor, Pa., in the She Got Game Classic on Saturday in Springfield, Virginia. The game tips off at 7:40 a.m. Pacific time.
