Letter: Railroad lives up to its word

As owners of the scrutinized property, we would like to give our perspective on what appears to be distorted narrative surrounding our logging road’s improvement by Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad.

Unlike the claims by some neighbors, Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad has been transparent and professional throughout this ordeal. When they first started correspondence with us, one of their concerns was to avoid disturbance of the natural creeks. The allegations of dead fish being due to the road maintenance are unfounded. The logging roadwork did not obstruct water flow as the creeks on our land were dry when Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad began their project. Therefore, the lack of water for the aquatic life on our neighbor’s land cannot be associated with this project. Having previously owned (as Longcreek Company) the concerned neighbor’s parcel, we can attest that the creek on that property routinely dried up in the summer, dispelling the notion that this is an unprecedented occurrence.

It appears that a few neighbors do not have the facts and are perpetuating false information.

We urge the community to appreciate the honesty and integrity that has been demonstrated to us by our local railroad operator.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
