America has long aligned itself with ingenuity and superiority. Perhaps that’s conjecture, or perhaps it’s true. But what’s certain is that our country appears to be shifting well beneath such attributes. As more Americans subscribe to conspiracies and ideas lacking truth or substance, there is a growing foolishness, which in turn has become a cult of the uninformed.
As a society, we have certainly never been perfect. However, the pursuit of excellence has kept America in a mostly upward trajectory. But such positive aspirations have come to a screeching halt, as an increasing number of Americans have wholly embraced what can only be described as nonsense and ignorance as the basis for their reality.
There used to be a nearly universal respect for American scientists. Now there are many who call their efforts fake science and hoaxes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, anti-science conspiracies became deadly. There used to be pride and faith in our political elections, where results were accepted until the next go-round. Now we have threatened election workers and the myth of voter fraud, despite a complete lack of evidence.
Is this a passing phase or the start of a downward spiral of the world’s greatest country?
