Battle Ground OKs eight-year multifamily tax break for West Main Commons project

Deacon Development could save $4.2 million

Battle Ground’s city council on Monday begrudgingly approved an eight-year multifamily tax break for Deacon Development, the company behind the West Main Commons project west of the Best Western hotel.

Despite passing by a unanimous vote, some council members had objections to the tax break.

“When this was presented to us, it was presented to us that no one is losing money, except for us,” Councilor Shane Bowman said, adding that the fire district, library district, cemetery district and others would also see a drop in revenue.
