Letter: In-home care needs to be fixed

For many, finding a caregiver is the first challenge. Being able to afford one is an even greater issue. Private in-home care from a service runs $40 per hour, requires a four-hour minimum and three-day per week agreement — $480 a week.

These costs, unless you have expensive insurance, make caregiving a burden falling on the family. We need to do all we can to train more caregivers and raise the low wage most of them are paid. The need will only increase. Government reimbursement is too low.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
