A suspicious object found outside Heritage High School prompted a school lockdown and bomb unit response Monday before authorities determined it to be harmless.
Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded at about 8:30 a.m. to the school, 7825 N.E. 130th Ave., in Orchards, for a report of a suspicious object found near the courtyard. School staff brought all students into classrooms to keep everyone away from the area, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
No students or staff were harmed during the incident.
Deputies called out the Metropolitan Explosive Disposal Unit, which determined the object was a package wrapped in duct tape with a keypad affixed to the outside and was harmless. The package was removed, the sheriff’s office said, and the school resumed normal operation.
“CCSO takes all potential threats to schools seriously and will work with district security to investigate the source of the object,” the agency said.
