Weather Eye: Will that warm weather ever arrive? Maybe next week

I think before we talk about more rain, let’s review rainfall for March from our friends and neighbors around the area. Bob Starr, Cougar, 11.34 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 5.69 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 4.35 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 6.85 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 5.69 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 4.14 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 6.04 inches; Dick Lenahan, Meadow Glade, 4.29 inches; Dave Campbell, Amboy, 6.95 inches; Murphy Dennis, Rawson Road, 6.23 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 8.60 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 5.30 inches; and Judy Weber, near View, 6.12 inches. Our friend Roland Derksen in Vancouver, B.C., reported only 2.95 inches. The official rainfall for Vancouver USA was 4.53 inches, .58 of an inch above average for a change.

Will we top last month’s rainfall this month? We have 4 inches in the gauge and another 10 days to go so it would seem likely. Showers today will add up for sure and possible showers over the weekend will keep our wet streak alive. However, long-range models want to turn the water spout off for a while later next week, so we’ll wait and see how the last days of April develop.

Once again you are seeing those 70-degree high temperatures next week on your smartphone weather apps. This has been a pattern for the past several weeks, but the cold and wet weather has dominated. Talk about dangling a carrot out in front of us.

Even those 60-degree highs we thought might pop up today and Friday have disappeared, and we wait until Saturday and Sunday. The first half of the weekend may be dry as well before a warm front sags over us on Sunday. Snow and hail dumped at many locations Wednesday, especially along the coast, turning the ground white with a couple inches of the slushy white precipitation.

As I write this column Wednesday afternoon, I scanned several webcams around the county and saw scattered downpours and only 45 degrees in most locations. This is mid-April? When that first 70-degree day rolls around it will feel downright warm, especially after weeks and weeks of 30s and 40s.

Take good care and we will chat on Sunday as we bask in 60 degree temperatures?
