Letter: Follow Bible to stop shootings

George Hamilton asks for ideas to stop shootings (“Ideas needed to stop shootings,” Our Readers’ Views, April 5). Here is my idea: If we all lived according to the instructions in God’s Word, the Bible, especially the Ten Commandments, the shootings would stop. One of the commandments is, “You shall not murder.”

In Matthew 22:35-40, a lawyer asked Jesus, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind … And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

In Matthew 5:44, Jesus says, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you.”

For many years we have been removing the Bible out of our schools and out our lives. Now we are reaping what we have sown and if we don’t change back to what we used to be, things will keep getting worse.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
