A house fire Wednesday morning sent two people to an area hospital and apparently killed several pets in Vancouver’s Rose Village neighborhood.

Vancouver firefighters responded at about 7:15 a.m. to a structure fire at 3501 N St. Crews arrived to find fire coming from the back of the house and stretched a hose line to extinguish the flames, according to a news release.

The residents told firefighters everyone was out of the house, except for several cats and a dog, the fire department said.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and went inside to search for the pets. They were unable to find any surviving animals inside, according to the news release. AMR took two adults to a hospital.

Six fire engines, a ladder truck and two battalion chiefs responded. Clark County Fire District 6 also responded to assist.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
