Prep highlights: Heritage softball rallies past Evergreen, 3-2

Hailey Dowell and Jaila Ellis both came through with key hits in the sixth inning as Heritage softball rallied for a 3-2 win over Evergreen on Tuesday.

Dowell tied the game 2-2 with an RBI double, driving in Taylor Frost with two outs. Ellis then singled allowing Dowell to score the go-ahead run on an outfield error.

Ellis was also the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and one walk over seven innings, striking out four.

Heritage handed Evergreen its first league loss in what is shaping up to be a competitive 3A Greater St. Helens League season. Timberwolves and Prairie are both 3-1 which Evergreen is 2-1.

Stars of the day

  • Jack Somarakis, King’s Way Christian baseball, went 4 for 4 with a double and two runs scored in a 10-2 win over Castle Rock.
  • Houston Coyle, La Center baseball, went 3 for 3 with a triple, double, two runs and two RBI in a 9-1 win over Seton Catholic.
  • Hailey Kerker, Camas girls tennis, remained unbeaten with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles as the Papermakers beat Oregon 4A/3A/2A/1A girls 2022 state champion Catlin Gabel of Portland 5-1.
  • Jayden Crace, Evergreen baseball, allowed just three hits over six shutout innings, striking out 11 in 2-0 win over Heritage. He also had an RBI double.
  • Boston Jensen, Camas baseball, drove in two runs on a double in the fourth inning of a 2-0 win over Battle Ground.
  • Ty Linster, Battle Ground baseball, allowed just three hits and struck out eight over six innings in a 2-0 loss to Camas.
  • Ben Lewis, Union baseball, hit a two-RBI double to key a four-run second inning in a 5-1 win over Skyview.
  • Maizy Whitlow, Ridgefield softball, went 2 for 4 with two doubles in a 12-4 win over Woodland.
  • Lauren Baker, La Center softball, went 3 for 5 with two triples, four runs scored and five RBI in a 18-17 win over Seton Catholic.
  • Jade Gruher, Union girls golf, fired a 1-under-par 35 at Camas Meadows for medalist honors in a match against Camas.
  • Isaiah Cowley, Ridgefield boys track and field, won the 100 meters, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdle and anchored the winning 400 relay team in a meet against Columbia River and Fort Vancouver.
  • Madison Ruddy, Ridgefield girls track and field, won the 100 meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump and ran on the winning 400 relay team in a meet against Columbia River and Fort Vancouver.
  • Eric Botnen, Skyview boys track and field, won the 100 meters, the discus and anchored the victorious 400 relay team in a meet against Evergreen and Heritage.
  • Dea Cavarrubias, Skyview girls track and field, won the 100 meters, 200 meters and anchored with victorious 400 relay team in in a meet against Evergreen and Heritage.
  • Sam Soto, Seton Catholic boys soccer, had two goals and two assists in a 8-0 win over Castle Rock.
  • Diego Bejar, Evergreen boys soccer, scored a hat trick in a 5-0 win over Kelso.
  • Alex Harris, Columbia River boys soccer, tallied five goals a one assist in a 7-0 win over Washougal.
  • Lucas Witthauer, Skyview boys soccer, scored two goals in a 4-0 win over Union.
