Prep highlights: R.A. Long beats Interlake 8-7 in 8 innings

Matthew Verdoorn’s two-out fly ball to right field in the eighth inning resulted in an error, allowing Jared Childers to score from third as the R.A. Long baseball team beat Interlake of Bellevue, 8-7 on Saturday at Longview.

Interlake had a 7-5 lead going into the bottom of the sixth when R.A. Long (4-4) scored twice to tie the non-league game.

Childers drove home the tying runs with a one-out double in the sixth. It was the second of two doubles on the day as he went 3 for 4.

Logan Bodily also had three hits for the Lumberjacks, going 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Stars of the day

  • Isaac Watson, Prairie baseball, went 2 for 3 with three RBI and scored four runs in the Falcons’ 16-12 non-league win at Gig Harbor.
  • Nathaniel Olmos, Washougal baseball, was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored in the Panthers’ 3-1 non-league win over Seton Catholic.
  • Thomas Clute, Seton Catholic baseball, went 2 for 2 and scored the Cougars run on Sawyer Clifton’s hit in the seventh inning of their loss to Washougal.
  • Rocco Wright, Ridgefield baseball, went 2 for 3 with an RBI in the Spudders’ non-league 7-1 loss to visting Mount Vernon.
