SHUMWAY — On March 2, the Fort Vancouver Rose Society held its most successful rose auction ever, raising $1,753 toward funding its June 24 FVRS Rose Show. Auctioneer Sally Rossetto kept the bidding electric with energy to get 35 donated roses, including roses donated by Chris Prewitt of Weeks Roses, sold in record time.
The highest winning rose bid was for $105 for a miniflora rose “Will-O’-The-Wisp”. The highest winning bid of the evening, however, was for $150 for a tray of freshly baked cinnamon rolls a month for six months.
Organizers thanked Wendy Tilley of Harlane Co. of Vancouver, who donated a rose name label for every rose auctioned as well as a portion of each sale of labels separately sold during the auction.
The Fort Vancouver Rose Society, which helps to maintain the community rose gardens at Esther Short Park and at The Covington House, is dedicated to promoting appreciation and knowledge of roses. Meetings, open to all, are held the first Thursday of each month, except for January, July and August.
