April tried to fool us Saturday with those nice clearing periods of blue sky and sunshine. However, with plenty of towering cumulus clouds at all points on the horizon, showers were always close. Some of those clouds brought hail and brief heavy rain, which dropped the temperatures to the lower 40s.
The best the official thermometer in Vancouver could do Saturday was 51 degrees as of 5 p.m. during a late-afternoon sunbreak. That is crazy cold, folks. Of course, we should be used to it with the recent bouts of winter that have lingered into springtime.
I had a few reports from foothill friends that some of the showers brought heavy, wet snow Saturday, but there wasn’t much accumulation unless one was above 1,500 feet. The mountains are getting clobbered.
Even the passes to the coast had snow showers, which will continue today, so factor that in if you’re heading to the beach for spring break. The coldest air will pass overhead tonight, and if a heavy shower develops, snow could fall down to sea level during the nighttime. It wouldn’t last long, however, as temperatures for the most part should remain above freezing.
