A man suffered multiple wounds Monday when he was attacked with a machete and robbed of his bicycle at a homeless camp in Hazel Dell, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident was reported about 5:45 p.m. behind a business in the 800 block of Northeast Minnehaha Street. Multiple witnesses reported an altercation between two men in a homeless encampment during which one of the men began striking the other with a machete, according to a sheriff’s office statement.

The statement said the attacker in the case rode away on a bicycle before deputies arrived to find Ronnie Anderson, 40, of Vancouver suffering from multiple injuries. He was transported to a hospital with what was later determined to be minor tissue wounds, the statement said.

Deputies later located and arrested a suspect in the attack, 41-year-old Frank Rios of Vancouver, according to the statement, which said at the time of his arrest, he still had the machete and a bicycle he had allegedly stolen from Anderson.

The statement said that the assault occurred after Rios observed Anderson with his girlfriend.

Rios was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and first-degree robbery, according to the statement. It said deputies worked with witnesses to be able to return the stolen property to the victim. With the assistance of witnesses, deputies recovered the stolen property and were able to return these items to the victim in this case.
