Washougal man gets 3½ years in shooting

A Washougal man was sentenced to  years in prison Friday for shooting a man in the head during an argument over whether the motorist was casing a neighborhood.

Isaac Matthew Spiekerman, 24, pleaded guilty in Clark County Superior Court to second-degree assault with a firearm enhancement. A charge of first-degree assault, also with a firearm enhancement, was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Washougal police responded around 1 a.m. Oct. 13, 2021, to 4322 Addy Loop after callers heard gunshots. Police found a man had been shot on the right side of his forehead. His car also had bullet holes in it, according to a probable cause affidavit. The man’s wife and two children were getting out of the car when police arrived.

Police said the victim suffered a “significant but not life-threatening injury.”

Spiekerman told police he fired three shots into the man’s car in order to defend his friend, court records state.

He said the man was “acting suspicious” by driving around the neighborhood multiple times and taking photos of his friend’s car. Spiekerman told police his friend went outside to confront the driver. The friend then told Spiekerman the driver punched him in the face and threatened him with a gun, according to the affidavit.

Spiekerman and the friend told police they never saw the driver display a gun and that he never got out of his car, the affidavit states.

The victim told police he was circling the neighborhood to try to get his kids to fall asleep.
