Fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns by Evergreen’s Shaudez Grant and Mark Williams Jr., stopped Hockinson’s momentum from the third quarter as the Plainsmen prevailed 25-22 on Friday at Hockinson.
Evergreen (2-0) led 22-7 at the half, but the Hawks (1-1) came alive in the third quarter, scoring twice within the opening 3 minutes to tie the game at 22-22.
Enzo Oliverio scored on a 50-yard pass play from Jarod Oldham, and an onside kick recovery followed with Tristan Maldonado scoring on an 8-yard pass from Oldham to knot things up.
Evergreen recovered in the fourth quarter with its two TDs to pull away.
Senior receiver Jonathan Landry, who caught eight passes for a team-high with 78 yards and a score, said adjusting to the Hawks’ offensive outburst, was all about keeping the intensity.
