Brayden Schiefer of King’s Way Christian is The Columbian Week 1 prep football player of the week

Junior quarterback beats out Mateo Varona of Hudson's Bay for the honor

King’s Way Christian junior Brayden Schiefer is The Columbian 2022 Week 1 high school football player of the week.

Schiefer received 533 votes to outdistance Mateo Varona of Hudson’s Bay for the honor.

The junior quarterback passed for 458 yards and five touchdowns in a 39-6 win over Stevenson.

Winners of the player-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no player may be nominated in consecutive weeks.

Here is what the other nominees did:

ELIJAH ANDERSEN, WOODLAND: The sophomore rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns in a 22-0 win over Kalama.

AJ ATTARAN, UNION: Attaran caught 11 passes for 130 yards and one touchdown and had an interception on defense in a 35-32 loss to Eastlake.

PAYTON STEWART, KELSO: The junior defensive end returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown and recorded two sacks in a 23-7 win over Timberline.

MATEO VARONA, HUDSON’S BAY: The senior returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown and rushed for 94 yards including a 61-yard TD run in a 53-6 win over Heritage.
