Letter: Support Steinke for utilities

Clark Public Utilities put the River Road Generating Plant online in 1997. It provides 30 percent of our electricity needs and was declared the 10th-biggest greenhouse gas polluter in the Northwest in 2012.

It was the fourth-largest emitter of greenhouse gases among Washington power plants in 2017. The utility intends to keep this plant operating until 2045. Do we really want to send climate-destroying gases into local air for another 23 years?

Clark Public Utilities shows over $10 million budget surpluses annually going back to at least 2014. It’s time for a new vision. Vote Don Steinke for Clark County Utilities Commission.
