Rochester blocked a 23-yard field goal attempt by Seton Catholic as time expired, lifting the visiting Warriors to a win in a defensive battle, 9-8.
Rochester took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and held it into the fourth.
But Joe Callerame’s 5-yard touchdown run and subsequent conversion run put Seton Catholic up 8-6 with 8:56 left in the fourth quarter.
Rochester regained the lead with a 24-yard field with 1:38 to go.
Seton marched downfield to give. Itself one last shot at the win.
Callerame passed for 190 yards, including seven passes for 106 yards to Ryker Ruelas.
“We put in a lot of work over the last year in summer camp and we’ve grown a lot as a team,” Seton junior linebacker Joshua Perez said. “Last year the old Seton would’ve crumbled under this pressure, but this year we’re a new Seton and we fought back and each week we’re trying to just go 1-0.”
